Position Title: Camp Counselor                               

Department: Camp Columbia

Reports To: Camp Director

Supervises/Direct Reports: Rachel Rodriguez

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Camp Director, they will be responsible for looking after the safety and fun of the Camp Columbia campers. They will keep the campers entertained by interacting with them in all the camp activities. They will help set-up camp, welcome campers, play with them, send them home, and clean-up. They will be in constant communication with parents for any special needs of the campers.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assure all campers are under constant supervision for safety purposes.
  2. Be aware of childrens health concerns. ex. Allergies
  3. Stay alert and involved in all camp activities assuring that the campers are having fun while still being safe.
  4. Watch over campers in the pool to assure their safety in and around the pool area including getting in the pool and swimming with them in an appropriate one piece bathing suit.
  5. Throughout the day keep a positive attitude towards the Camp Director and the campers.
  6. Talk to parents about any concerns they may have had with their child that day.
  7. Must arrive on time according to the Camp Director, ready to set-up for the daily activities. These activities include:
  • Covering tables with sheets of paper for protection
  • Bringing out crafts and snacks for the day
  • Setting up chairs for the correct amount of campers

Takes part in clean-up procedures including:

  • Vacuuming Carpet
  • Mopping behind the bar and camp spaces
  • Taking out all trash to the loading dock and putting it in the correct bin
  • Putting away all equipment
  • Changing tablecloths
  • Wiping down all chairs used at the camp
  • Collecting any items left from the campers to return the next day     

Conversations between camp counselors while at work need to be professional and respectful of others at all times.  Come prepared in the white Columbia polo shirt, white or khaki appropriate shorts and clean white sneakers. Completes other appropriate tasks directed by the Camp Director. 

Essential Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a background check.  
  • Must enjoy interacting with children
  • High energy and focuse
  • Strong relationship builder with a history of excellent relations with their supervisor, staff, children, and parents. 
  • Excellent, proactive communication skills; listens to and responds to both coworkers and children's needs. 
  • Proven history of providing a consistent and exceptional camp experience. 
  • Strong observational skills and detail oriented.
  • Highly organized.
