Columbia Country Club, founded in 1898, is a private member-owned club located in Chevy Chase, Maryland.  The Club's 1,600 members and their families enjoy golf, fitness, bowling, aquatics, ice rink, paddle tennis courts and inside & outside tennis courts. The Club has annual gross revenues of $11 million with approximately $5.2 million in Food & Beverage revenues.

The Tennis Concierge & Front Desk Manager reports to the Director of Tennis and works cohesively with all members of the CCC Tennis Staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.  The individual in this role will focus primarily on, but not limited to member satisfaction, communication and prompt responsiveness to their needs respectively.  He / She will be a visible presence in the shop and ensure all policies and procedures are being followed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Build and foster strong rapport with members in order to provide more anticipatory, personalized service.
  • Act as liaison with Membership, Front Desk, Accounting, Payroll, Banquet/Catering, General Manager's office, and other Clubs regarding Columbia's tennis programs, improvements and concerns.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Tennis and the Communications Director to ensure accuracy and upkeep to the tennis web site and calendar; electronic communications; tennis/paddle bulletin boards to keep members fully informed of available activities (lessons/clinics/junior programs/special events).
  • Maintains strong industry awareness and consistently works to improve their personal industry knowledge and expertise.
  • Is fully knowledgeable on the use and benefits of services, products, programs and activities


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Train and supervise part-time tennis desk staff on the ERM system, Jonas, and the general workings of a professional tennis operation (with a particular focus on exceptional, member-oriented service); prepare their work schedules.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Regular communication with members to keep them informed on tennis and paddle events.
  • Daily lessons and court sheet management, including (batch/periodic) billing, court maintenance, and tennis professionals' schedules.
  • Assist in organization and management of contracts for reserved indoor tennis time during the winter season.
  • Assist the Director of Tennis in introducing and welcoming (written/telephone) new members to the tennis operation; promote participation in tennis activities with new members to build engagement with targeted areas of the tennis program.
  • Assist Tennis Committee and Director of Tennis with generation and implementation of ideas/plans for tennis.
  • Use organizational techniques to provide the appropriate tools, keep a clean and orderly environment and accurately provide important information.
  • Enforces Guest rules and other rules pertaining to tennis activities.

Retail/Housekeeping Responsibilities:

  • Assist Shop Buyer and Director of Tennis with retail marketing (organization, pricing, and display of merchandise); facilitate special orders for members.
  • Contributes to general housekeeping so that all facets are promptly addressed and completed.
  • Communicates necessary improvements to Director of Tennis.

Court Maintenance:

  • Assist, when needed, with various court maintenance tasks (raking, sweeping, lining courts, stocking water, cups, hand sanitizer, tissues).

Supervisory Responsibilities        

The Tennis Concierge will directly oversee all part-time tennis staff. In addition, he / she will assist in the direction, strategies and coordination of all Tennis related activities and execution.

Position Qualifications and Functional Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. Furthermore, he / she should possess the following personal and professional characteristics:

  • Minimum three years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Has a track record of career progression and professional development.
  • Pronounced "people skills" in dealings with staff and members.
  • Strong aptitude in multitasking
  • Proficient at solving tactical, practical problems and strategic challenges.
  • Able to understand and take direction from his / her superiors and execute the task to the best of his / her ability.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret all business pertaining to the position.
  • Proficient in use of the Internet and Microsoft Office Suite programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Must be able to work all required holidays and mandatory Club events.
  • Able to meet the physical demands and responsibilities of the position. He / she will, while regularly performing the essential functions of the job, be standing, sitting and lifting / moving items or objects over 25 pounds and sometimes lift / move items up to 75 pounds.
